O’Neill’s 2008 line of women’s wetsuits is topped by the PsychoFreak and its all-new XDS-Air neoprene construction. Because of XDS-Air, a three-layer neoprene laminate, the PsychoFreak is measurably warmer than traditional suits—so much so, that a 3.5mm suit of XDS-Air is equivalent in warmth to the 4/3mm neoprene of a conventional layup (that is, a single-layer of sponge with an interior and exterior facing material).
In addition to the innovative but still largely un-tested PsychoFreak (don’t be turned off by the unique exterior texture, it’s a product of the trapped-air-cell construction), women can trust in the Psycho 2, one of the surfing world’s most proven products. Other 2008 models worth a look are the D-Lux, a purpose-built suit for girls with curves, and the Hailo ZEN-zip, a full-featured number for under 300 dollars.—SBG
